Romans 6:1-2 reads, "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly now! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?"
As true Christians, those of us who have truly accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior, repented of their sins, and asked Him to be the Lord of their lives, we should not want to sin. Does that mean that we will never sin? No, we are human and therefore we make mistakes. Paul himself, wrote this in the book of Romans 7:15, "for what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do." As Christians we should try our best not to sin, but be the best witnesses for Christ as possible.

ReplyDeleteThe verse you open with here is such a good reminder for us not to think of grace as "a license to sin". Paul warns us frequently that though we are "called unto liberty" and made free from our sins in Christ Jesus, we should "use not liberty for an occassion to the flesh" (Galatians 5). Thankfully if we sin "we have an advocate with the Father" (1 John 2:1), but indeed, we are called to die to sin, walk after the Spirit, and worship our holy Father in the beauty of holiness. By His grace, He has filled my heart with a yearning for this "beauty of holiness" David talks about (Psalm 96:9)! Let's pray that we and our brethren come closer to that goal each and every day!
One of our elders recently stated that "it doesn't matter what you do as long as you cling to Jesus". I challenged her on that. She said that if you were truly clinging to Jesus you wouldn't be doing anything bad. And the implication was that we have Grace to save us if we do.
