Verse of the Week

Everything is possible for those who believe...Mark 9:23

This verse, I don't think needs an explanation.  Take it for what it is.

Doing Everything with a Good Attitude

Verse of the Week

And whatever you do [no matter what it is] in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus and in [dependence upon] His Person, giving praise to God the Father through Him... Colossians 3:17

This is one of those self explanatory verses.  Also this is one of those verses that may be a verse of the week more then once.  Everything that we do, do it in the name of Jesus.  That means that whatever we do lets do it to the best of our ability and depend on Jesus to fill in what we can't do.  In addition, we also need to give praise to the Father through Jesus.  When I do that I usually thank Jesus for giving me the strength, time, patients, etc. to do whatever it is that I am doing.  I challenge you this week to live this verse.

Pursue Righteousness

Verse of the Week

The Lord detests the way of the wicked, but He loves those who pursue righteousness... Proverbs 15:9

Through this verse God reveals that He loves those who pursue righteousness, but detests (hates) the way of the wicked.  We need to try to pursue righteousness.  Act as though Jesus is standing right next to you no matter what it is that you are doing.  Just because you can't see Jesus doesn't mean that He cant see you and what you are doing.

Jesus is the Ressurection

Verse of the Week

I am the Resurrection and the Life: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?... John 11:25-26

Jesus is asking each and every one of us this question.  Not only must your answer be yes to that question, but you must confess that with your mouth also.  My answer is yes to Jesus' question.  What's yours?

The Straight Gate

Verse of the Week

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in threat: Because straight is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth to life, and few there be that find it... Matthew 7:13-14

Jesus is telling us here that we need to find the narrow path.  There are many roads that we can take, but there is one way to life (the narrow way) and that is through Jesus Christ.  We must believe, confess, and make Jesus our Lord and Savior, make Him the Lord of our lives, and repent of our sins.  All other roads lead to destruction.

Our Lord's Compassion

Verse of the Week

As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him... Psalm 103:13

Since we have been discussing forgiveness, this verse about compassion fits our topics.  The Lord is our Father in heaven and he is merciful and will have compassion on you.

Nothing to Fear

Verse of the Week

The Lord is my light and my salvation-whom shall I fear?... Psalm 27:1

Considering the Jesus is my light and my salvation, in truth there is nothing to fear.  Jesus is our provider, our protector.  I know that I am going to heaven because Jesus died on the cross and rose on the third day;  He is my salvation so what do I need to fear?  Since the Lord is our light, let Him guide you in every part of your life.

Keep Jesus With You

Verse of the Week

Without me ye can do nothing... John 15:5

These are the words of Jesus.  This portion of the verse is completely straight forward and blunt.  Take this verse to heart.  Keep Jesus with you always.  Keep Him first in your lives.  Bring Jesus Christ into everything that you do.  Always know that God loves you.  May the Lord be with each of you who read this post.  Have a blessed week.

Who is on Your Side?

Verse of the Week

If God be with us, who can be against us?... Romans 8:31

Our God is an awesome God.  He is a mighty powerful and majestic God.  He sent Jesus, His only begotten Son, to die on the cross so our sins can be forgiven.  There is no problem He can not solve.  Jesus conquered death, hell and the grave.  He conquered sin.  Jesus is Lord of all.  He is victorious.  If Jesus is on our side, who can be against us?  We are protected.  Make sure that God is with you and on your side.

The Good News

Verse of the Week

Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature... Mark 16:15

Jesus tells us in this verse to spread the Good News about Jesus dieing on the cross and raising from the dead so our sins can be forgiven to everyone.  He wants you, and me to live in heaven with Him.  Start off by preaching the Gospel in  your own world, work, school, family, etc.  Take a look at

Haiti

C6KBGVNJ7C65

I know Monday’s you expect to read this weeks verse of the week and it is posted just below this post. As many know, Haiti has been severely devastated by that earthquake. We as Christians should definitely pray for them. In addition to that there are many organizations that you can donate money, food, clothing, etc. to so that it goes over there to help them.

It is important to pray for them. Many people underestimate the power of prayer, but let me reiterate that prayer is very powerful. Our God is an awesome God and there is not a problem that is too much for Him to solve.

When you are donating, try to find a place that you can donate through so that your donation gets over there the fastest way possible. It does no good for them if your donation can’t get to them for months. Yesterday I attended Christ the Rock Community Church and Pastor Darrell said that they partnered with another church who is making sure the supplies and money donated through either church gets there quickly and does not through some weird chain that can take a long time to get there. The people need help now!

Another thing, if it is possible for you, would be to donate your time by actually going over there to help. That is not something that is feasible for most people, but I thought I’d mention it just the same.
Please make sure that you are not one of those people that feel that we should not help them because they are not “American” or from whatever country you are from, because that is just flat out wrong. They are still people, have families, and they all have feelings. Whether or not they are Christians is besides the point. If we help them out in some way maybe we can minister to them and those that are not saved can become saved.

When you pray, please include in your prayer to have more people come to Jesus Christ and become born again in the midst of all this. Come to think of it please join me in the below prayer. Jesus says in Matthew 18:19-20, “I also tell you this: If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, My Father in heaven will do it for you. For where two or three are gathered together as my followers, I am there among them.” (New Living Bible).

Dear Father I pray in the Name of Jesus, I thank you for every blessing that you have given me. I thank you that you caused what happened over in Haiti to be known to us so that we can help in some way. Please help and be with all the people over in Haiti that were devastated by this earthquake and please comfort those who have lost loved ones in this disaster. I also ask that you bless and give endurance to those who are over there helping that they can continue to help those in need. Please also help those who do not know You to get to know You and become saved. In Jesus’ mighty Name I pray Amen. Thank You Jesus! Glory to your name.

Gossip

Verse of the Week

Without wood a fire goes out; without gossip a quarrel dies down...Proverbs 26:20

I firmly believe this verse.  I think that gossip can cause plenty of trouble and that gossip can make a quarrel worse.  Think about it.  If you are mad at person A, and person B comes and tells you something about person A, unless it is an apology, it usually stirs up more anger.   Take a look at

Helping Others

I feel that God showed me Romans 12:13 this morning.  In the New Living Bible Version it reads, "when God's people are in need, be ready to help them.  Always be eager to practice hospitality."

This morning, I will go into the first portion of this verse.  Our need to help others is what is said in this verse.  When you see someone in need of help, go and help them.  We are all God's people.  If you don't believe me read my other post on Caught In The Rush where I explain why.  Since we are God's people we should always be ready to help someone in need.  What does this accomplish?  First of all, you are showing God that you are obeying what He wants you to do.  It shows people that you care about them.

In addition to that Matthew 25:34-40 shows us that when we help others we are doing it for Jesus.  Verse 40 reads, "and the King will say, 'I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!."  Here Jesus had just finished telling about the final judgment.  In verse 37-39 He mentioned that the righteous asked when they saw Jesus hungry or naked, and when was He sick so they could have visited Him.  Jesus is basically saying that when we help others we are doing it for Him or helping Him.

If we are to be fishers of men we should without question help others.  This is one thing that Jesus wants us to do.  Be a fisher of men today.  If you know someone sick, give them a call, if you know someone who is hungry, take them out to eat.  Do something to help someone today that you usually pass on by.  Know of a way to help others?  Please leave a comment sharing it.

Killing Sin

Colossians 3:5 reads in the New Living Bible Version, "so put to death the sinful earthly things lurking within you."

If we are to be fishers of men, we need to get rid things that cause us to sin.  If you find that you addicted to something, such as a computer game, that keeps you cooped up in your room instead of going and getting a job to support your family or help support your family, get rid of the game.  If you find that you are addicted to gambling and you lost much of what you and your family had to live on, get help, pray, do not let earthly things control you.  If you find that you eat a an entire box of cookies in one sitting, stop buying them.  This is gluttony.  The verse is very clear, "put to death" the earthly things that cause you to sin.  Obviously you can't kill an item (the earthly things lurking within you), but you can cut it out of your life.  Take a moment and think of somethings that you think you should cut out of your life.  One thing that you can do is ask God to open your eyes to see something that you do or have that is causing you to sin.  You can also ask God to help you to get rid of whatever it is.  Have one that you want to share?  Please leave a comment.

Worry

The New Living Bible reads in Luke 12:25, "Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?"

I really like this verse.  Why do we worry?  I slowly have eliminated worry from my life.  Granted I am still human and do worry, but very, very rarely.  When you start to worry, what will it accomplish?  Most likely just you getting all worried and stressed out is all you accomplish by worrying.  Take today and look at everything that you do and see how many times you worry.  Ask God, that when you worry, to help you to stop so slowly worry gets eliminated from your life.

Do Not Envy Wicked Men

I asked Jesus to help figure out what to post about earlier and when I opened my bible now and looked down Proverbs 24:1 almost jumped at me.  It reads in the NIV, "do not envy wicked men, do not desire their company."

Be careful of who your friends are.  If you know that someone is not a good influence and you being around them isn't changing them, why are you hanging around them?  When we are a fisher of men, we want people to want what we have, a relationship with Jesus Christ, and all that comes with that.  For example, we are going to heaven, we have Jesus with us, we are full of joy (well at least I am), and much more.  Do not envy others, but be an example to those who are around you so that they want a relationship with Jesus just as we have.

Ambassadors for Christ

Verse of the Week

Now then we are ambassadors for Christ...2 Corinthians 5:20

If we are ambassadors for Christ, then we need to represent Him well.  This week focus on being the best witness for Him as possible.  Of course we are to live as Jesus wants us to every day, but start off by taking it one week at a time or even one day... if you let Jesus run your life you will be full of joy.  If you hit hard times, remember that Jesus is your Lord and "behold, the Lord is my helper," (psalm 54:4).

The Second Greatest Commandment

Jesus says in Matthew 22:38-39, "this is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like unto it, Thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself."

If we are to be fishers of men we need to love our neighbor as we love ourselves.  Jesus didn't just mean literal neighbors, but I believe He meant everyone.  Think about how you would treat yourself in certain situations.  Let's take forgiveness for example.  If you did something wrong, wouldn't you forgive you?  Now if someone else does the exact thing you did, why wouldn't you forgive them?  If you don't, are you loving your neighbor as you do yourself?

Something I saw working in a restaurant, by some who worked in the kitchen, was that sometimes food would be dropped on the floor (by accident) and then they served it.  I tried to pick up anything off the floor myself and quickly throw it out to avoid arguments, but when I didn't I would suggest to the one who picked it up (usually the manager would be the one to pick it up) that if they wouldn't eat it, why would they serve it?  Think about it, if it was too gross for them to eat it, why would they serve it?

I think you get my point.  If you have any examples of how we can love our neighbors as our selves or stories similar to mine above, please share it by writing a comment.  Also before you leave check out this weeks verse which is entitled Be Not Ashamed.

Pray

Philippians 4:6 reads, "...let your requests be made known unto God." Yes, the bible says, 'let your requests be made known to God,' but how do you do that?

Prayer. Prayer is mentioned many times throughout the bible. One is Timothy 2:8 which reads, "I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting." We are supposed to pray. Jesus Himself said, 'when you pray,' at least twice in the bible. Jesus didn't use the word 'if,' He used the word, 'when' (Matthew 6:5 & 6).

Be not Ashamed

So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord... 2 Timothy 1:8

We should never be ashamed of the Gospel of Christ. He came and was beaten, spit on, mocked, and crucified for all our sins to be forgiven. The Good News is that Jesus is resurrected. Never ever be ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He is King of kings and Lord of lords and Name above all names. Glory be to God! Be sure to leave a comment before you leave.

Most Monday's from now on, I will be putting a 'Verse of the Week' up with a short explanation.
