Honor your Father and Mother

This is the fourth commandment.  You can find it in Deuteronomy 5:16.  This is one of those commandments that is straight forward.  Obviously if your parents tell you to jump off a cliff that isn't something you should do, but within reason, honor your father and mother.  When parents tell you to make your bed for example they are teaching you discipline.  When God designed male and female He instructed us to replenish the earth.  Due to this, God gave parents the ability to take care  of their children and to raise them with the fear of the Lord and to be ambassadors or Christ.

  1. Oh so true! While I've always known this to be true, I didn't always live by this. I knew God commanded me to honor my father and mother, but I had a father that didn't want me, and I felt didn't love me. How could I truly love him and honor him? Simple... through God's love for me! God is such a gracious and forgiving God. Praise God!

  2. I think that loving and honoring is a constant state of one's spirit. Not only an outward action. :)

  3. Hello!

There are many mitzwot ("commandments") in Torah and all are important.
It is written in Torah that any prophet who adds mitzwot (commandments) or removes mitzwot from Torah is a false prophet. (See Devarim (Deuteronomy) 13:1-6) (Link: http://www.mechon-mamre.org/)

So if Ribi Yehoshua or his followers contradicted Torah in their teachings, then according to Torah one shouldn’t follow their teachings. But there is no historical fact that implies that Ribi Yehoshua or his followers taught anything in contradiction to Torah.
